Blackoutcard Game Rules

Our favorite way to play is by simply taking turns picking a random card and reading it aloud.

However, if you prefer a more competitive twist, here are some alternative ways to play the game.

1.Category Collection Quest

Objective: The goal is to be the first player to collect 2 or 3 cards from each of the five categories: Dreams, Curiosity, Values, Creativity, and Humour.

Setup:

  1. Shuffle the entire deck of "Blackout Cards" thoroughly.
  2. Place the shuffled deck face down in the center of the table.
  3. Decide whether the goal is to collect 2 or 3 cards from each category.

Players: 2 or more players.

Gameplay:

Starting the Game:

  • The player who shuffled the deck goes first.

Drawing Cards:

  • On their turn, a player draws the top card from the deck and reads the question aloud.
  • The player who drew the card answers the question first, followed by the other players taking turns to answer.
  • The player then keeps the card.
  1. Collecting Cards:

    • Players aim to collect cards in each of the five categories. Cards are identified by their category (Dreams, Curiosity, Values, Creativity, Humour).
    • The player keeps the his / her card and places it in front of them, sorted by category.
  1. Winning the Game:

    • The game continues with players taking turns drawing cards, answering questions, and collecting cards.
    • The first player to collect 2 (or 3) cards from each of the five categories shouts "Blackout!" and wins the game.

2. Round Robin Response

  1. Setup: Shuffle the deck of "Blackout Cards" and place it face down in the center.
  2. Players: 3 or more players.
  3. Gameplay:
    • The player to the left of the dealer draws the top card and reads the question aloud.
    • Going clockwise, each player takes a turn to respond to the question.
    • After everyone has answered, the player who drew the card awards the card to the player with the most interesting or creative answer.
    • The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins.
  4. Winning: Play continues until a predetermined number of rounds are completed, or until the deck is exhausted.

3. Truth or Dare Twist

  1. Setup: Shuffle the deck of "Blackout Cards" and place it face down in the center.
  2. Players: 3 or more players.
  3. Gameplay:
    • The first player draws a card and reads the question aloud.
    • The player then chooses another player to answer the question.
    • If the chosen player does not want to answer, they can opt to perform a dare instead.
    • Create a list of fun and light-hearted dares beforehand or on the spot.
    • If the player completes the dare, they keep the card; if not, the card goes back to the bottom of the deck.
  4. Winning: The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins.

4. Category Challenge

  1. Setup: Separate the deck into five smaller decks based on the categories: Dreams, Curiosity, Values, Creativity, and Humour. Shuffle each smaller deck.
  2. Players: 3 or more players.
  3. Gameplay:
  • Place the five decks face down in the center.
  • Players take turns rolling a five-sided die (or a regular die, where 1 = Dreams, 2 = Curiosity, 3 = Values, 4 = Creativity, 5 = Humour, and 6 = player’s choice).
  • Based on the result of the die roll, the player draws a card from the corresponding category deck and reads the question aloud.
  • All players answer the question, and the player who drew the card selects the most interesting or creative answer.
  • The chosen player keeps the card.
Winning: The player with the most cards from each category at the end of the game wins. In case of a tie, the player with the most cards overall wins.
